Idol Wednesdays: Inspired Much?

Songs of inspirations is this week’s theme and Alicia Keys is this week’s mentor.  With this group of contestants I’m wondering if we’re going to be inspired at all.  (Can I just say that Alicia Keys has to be one of the most BEAUTIFUL woman in the entire world.  Holy cow.)

Casey James “Don’t Stop” (Fleetwood Mac) – Great opener.  Casey was really in it and played his guitar well.  The judges didn’t really go for it because Casey is in his zone and doing great in his blues rock vibe.  They always want more from him.  I’m calling in my votes because I want him to go all the way. <ahem>

Lee Dewyze “The Boxer” (Simon & Garfunkel) – I felt like Lee grumbled the first part of the lyrics, but he did a good job through the rest.  He’s so serious and I love when he finally gives us a glimpse of a smile.  The judges really went for it.

Tim Urban “Better Days” (Goo Goo Dolls) – Alicia thought that it could have been his own song.  I think he’s finally hitting his stride. He’s not on par with the rest, but he is holding his own, which is a low bar.  It is time.

Aaron Kelly “I Believe I Can Fly” (R. Kelly) – He’s just too much for me.  It’s like high school dramatics class all over.  He’s a lead in a performing choir.  I like Glee, but I don’t like Aaron.  He hits the big notes and I want to dry heave.  I really don’t like the audience waving their hands, but of course they would.  I’m so over him and those stupid little jackets the stylists put him in.  Will he be next on the block?  Please oh please. Oh. Please.

Siobhan “When You Believe” (Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston) – Of all the funky outfits that girl has worn I have to say this one was the most cohesive and cool.  Outside of that, she’s taking on the Divas, which the judges never go for.  I think she flubbed a part of it, but it was right before the big belting part of the song so no one will remember it.  Yeah, she can hit big notes and she’s talented, but I don’t like that kind of music; it puts me to sleep.  The judges were lukewarm on her performance.  She’s getting close to the end of her ride.

Michael Lynche “Hero” (Chad Kroeger of Nickelback fame and the song from the Spiderman soundtrack) – yeah, baby Michael has an Idol playbook of songs that he’s been preparing for two years.  That’s what I’m talking about.  Smart man.  That just moved him up a notch in my book.  Sadly, the song choice was too much outside of his genre to make it great.  He did okay and will be around for another week.  BTW, he looked really big this week and the stylist needs to put a jacket back on him.  That camera back shot was all wrong.

Crystal Bowersox “People Get Ready” (The Impressions) – Alicia Keyes loved it.  Crystal didn’t have an instrument and the girl looked good in a low cut black dress.  She knocked the performance out of the park and then lost it at the end with tears.  She was the only inspiring and touching performance of the night.  Kara called her by her nickname “Mamasox” and told her that she just “schooled all those contestants.”  Amen.  She rocks.

Okay, clearly the best performance of the night (by light years) was Crystal.  Duh.  I predict the Bottom 3 for this week will be Tim to finally go home, Aaron to be next on the block, and Siobhan to be the first to sit down.  Inspired much?  No not really.  Cheers friends.
