design genius

I am LONG overdue in publically recognizing and paying homage to the creative genius behind my new logo.  I have known Jen & Simon Bucktrout for over seven years.  We were really good friends back when Husband & I were childless and living the sweet life in San Francisco and have continued our friendship down the coast and through the years.

I can remember meeting Simon for the first time.  Not only is he a Brit, but also he has a wicked sense of humor.  His story about coming to America with his brother is an honest to god knee-slapper.  Jen, well obviously she’s awesome because she’s a jen.  I’ve always admired her chill demeanor and sexy pixie cut.  They are the kind of couple that I LOVE to hang with: lovers of life, good food, great drinks, lots of laughter and a clean design aesthetic.

I decided back in March that I am really committed to blogging and I wanted to elevate my game.  My WordPress free theme just wasn’t cutting it for me and I wanted to go pro.  I was in need of a ‘look’ and I knew just who I wanted to help me.  The Bucktrouts have this great flat in the Norpa neighborhood of San Francisco.  They have this huge wall in their kitchen that is painted a funky golden green, which very few people could pull off, but the Bucktrouts have a way of making odd things very cool, stylish and simple.  There’s a lot of cartoon Mom imagery in the blogosphere and that’s just not me.  My experience of motherhood isn’t all cute and funny and I’m a lot more than a mom.  I’m Not Just Another Jen.  I wanted a logo that was funky and stood out like the color of their kitchen wall.

Bucktrout Creative answered my plea and promises of lots of good wine.  You see, Simon’s been in design for a long time and somehow he has convinced Jen to join him as a partner, not only in marriage, but business.  And it’s working.  Well.  I couldn’t be happier with what they came up with for me.  It SO FITS and makes me want to shake my booty every time I think about it.  It’s a little bit naughty and a little bit nice.  It’s a little bit funky and a little bit ice.  It’s a bit green and very keen.  Okay, enough with the rhyming, but DAMN I like it so much.  So thanks dear friends.

If you like a clean, simple and smart design, give them a call.  At the very least you should look at their portfolio (once you click, scroll down, there’s lots), but don’t be intimidated.  They do all kinds of projects large and small. You should know that they are bad asses, totally awesome, kind, professional, and good people and I know that they would love to work with other fun and cool bloggers.

Cheers Bucktrouts, the next round is on me.  Love you guys the mostest.  I’ll be forever indebted.  So what do y’all think of the new look?  (logo only…I’m still working on the damn layout and f’n widgets…ugh!)
