SYTYCD: Top 10

My favorite tv night of the week – Wednesday and So You Think You Can Dance.  Let’s start by grading Kat’s outfit.  Through the season she wears some pretty crazy shit.  But tonight is somewhat normal.  I have never had the occasion to wear feathers on my dress, but she’s keeping it classy.  Her white A-line dress with white feathers gets a A-.  Loved the super-high silver mary janes.

I love how the contestants get to draw their All-Stars from the ‘hat’ and the All-Stars inform them of the dance this week.  Billy looked dismayed when Comfort announced their dance was Krump and Jose’s underwhelm of surprise got a chuckle out of me when Kathryn informed him that they would be performing a Bollywood number.  This should be interesting.

Cristina was paired with Pasha (lucky girl) this week for a Jean Marc Genereux & France’s Paso Doble.  Loved the crazy theatrical music and gold-fringed costumed.  I adored her tough faces during the dance.  She did a great job and was paired well with Pasha.  She’s a salsa girl so this wasn’t too far of a stretch for her.  I think she needed a good boost of confidence and the familiar to put her back on top.  She is one of my two favorite girls.

AdéChické was paired with Allison this week for a Mandy Moore contemporary number.  Wow, Allison is a looker.  It was a beautiful, big dance. AdéChické was striking, strong and took the coaching of adding more emotion to his dance.  He’ll be around for a while.

Alex , last week’s favorite, did a Bob Fosse Broadway routine with Lauren which was choreographed by Tyce Diorio.  I was a little taken away that Alex admitted to not knowing much about Bob Fosse.  Didn’t he ever take a Broadway musical or history of dance class in college?  I did and I never even danced in college!  Alex is incredibly gifted and technically superb, however Fosse is quiet, subdue and sexy. Alex’s sexy face is gross.  Like Adam said, “all fire and no smolder.”  It’s good when the leader gets pointed criticism.  I will like to see how he works with it.

Ashley partnered with All-Star Mark for a Travis Wall jazz dance.  It was good, but I think she lacks the emotional maturity and ability to connect with her partner.  However, I’d love to connect with her partner and his tan abs.

Billy got to take on Krumping with Comfort choreographed by Lil C.  Nice attempt.  But Billy’s neither bad ass nor a warrior.  He got through it.  I hope everyone will vote for him and keep him in.

Robert performed a Jean-Marc Genereux & France Argentine Tango with fierce lady Anya.  Robert looked delicious and was incredibly sexy during the performance and danced toe-to-toe well with her.  However, I saw a couple of tiny slip ups.  Over all hot, hot, hot.  I love Roberto.

Melinda partnered with Adé on a Stacey Tookey Contemporary number.  Melinda is beautiful, but lacks refinement and full stretch in her movement.  The judges liked it, but I just don’t think she’s going to stick around.  And Mia, you’re right; the dress that Melinda wore was something and so not good.

José and All-Star Kathryn are paired for a Bollywood number choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan.  There were a good number of things to laugh at.  First, their costumes and jewelry kept flying off during the performance.  Secondly, Beat Boy Jose practically laughed his way through it.  He did the moves with his funky groove and his fingers were a mess, but as Mia said “it was so wrong that it was right.”  Awesome.

Lauren partnered with All-Star Dominic on a lyrical hip-hop number choreographed by Tessandra Chavez.  It got all emotional with the abusive relationship storyline.  It was hard-hitting, intense and well executed.  Lauren is starting to bug me.  She’s a bit young and precocious, but a very good dancer.

Cutie cowboy Kent was coupled with Kourtney on a Tyce Diorio jazz routine.  Oh my lordie, the costume that he wore was like a leather bondage piece and then the song was from Amy Winehouse, so you get the theme of tortured love right there.  Poor Kent just can’t get outside of himself and into a character that requires any kind of sexuality or dominance.  However, once he starts talking he’s completely adorable and therein lays the problem.  Will people vote for him because he’s so damn cute?

This week I feel pretty confidant that Ashley and Melinda will be in the Bottom 3, but who will round out the rear?  I like Cristina, but not sure that America does.  As for the guys, Billy, José and Kent definitely were out of their element this week, but their personality and perseverance shines through.  I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Kent will be in the Bottom 3 with Melinda going home.  Melinda just doesn’t have the technical precision that the other dancers have.

Meanwhile, I’ll be dreaming of my favorite performance, the tango with “Roberto” and instead of Anya, it will be me dancing.  Olé.

I totally agree that Melinda will be the one to go home tonight. At the very beginning I liked Lauren, but there is something arrogant about her that I can’t put my finger on. I think if Kent can learn to “morph” his personality based on the role he needs to play he will be in the competition a long time. He is young and extremely talented. I can’t wait for tonight’s results.

KTB & Red Lotus Mama-wow gals we were SO wrong! I can’t believe that Cristina went home. She was quickly becoming my favorite girl. I think slowly each week the girls are going to go home. Potentially, my hottie Robert will eventually go too since he was also in the Bottom 3. I’m going to make an early prediction and say that the Top 4 dancers will be all men. Will Lauren be the last girl standing?

Great recap! Glad to know I’m not the only one who imagines themselves on the show. It’s not like I’m 32 years old and play Just Dance on the Wii and imagine myself being a contestant. Ya… it’s *totally* not like that ;)

Thanks Last Girl Standing. Check back every Thursday. I’d love to hear your ideas for best performance and choice for Bottom 3. Do you write on the show too? If you know of any others that write on it, let me know. I’d love to do a link up and share the SYTYCD love.
